About this course

Production-grade SQL queries turned into interactive Power BI dashboards decision-makers use.

This is a 6-week short course - enough depth to build real projects and a portfolio piece, without a long commitment. It runs online in the August 2026 cohort (starting 1 August 2026) and is taught the EchoLens way: you learn by doing real, gradeable work rather than just watching lectures.

What's included

  • Live, instructor-led online sessions across 6 weeks (24 hours total).
  • Hands-on coding quests you solve inside the EchoLens browser compiler - nothing to install.
  • Gems, stages and a leaderboard that keep you moving instead of grade anxiety.
  • A verified certificate with a scannable QR code, ready to share on LinkedIn, when you finish.
  • The first week is open free so you can try the course before you pay.

What you will learn

Course learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • CLO 1. Write real analytical SQL queries using joins, CTEs and window functions to clean and shape data.
  • CLO 2. Build a Power BI data model with Power Query ETL and DAX measures for time-based analysis.
  • CLO 3. Design and publish an interactive, stakeholder-ready dashboard that tells a clear data story.

Course outline - level by level

12 leveles, each with hands-on quests you clear in the portal.

  • Level 1. The analytics workflow · Databases and SELECT - Go from question to answer thinking in tables, read a schema, and write basic SELECT queries over rows and columns.
  • Level 2. Filtering and sorting · Aggregations - Narrow to what matters with WHERE, ORDER BY and LIMIT, then aggregate with COUNT, SUM, AVG, GROUP BY and HAVING.
  • Level 3. Joining tables · Subqueries and CTEs - Relate data correctly with inner and left joins, and layer readable logic with subqueries and common table expressions.
  • Level 4. Window functions · Cleaning data in SQL - Rank and run totals with window functions and PARTITION BY, then clean data with CASE, COALESCE and standardised values.
  • Level 5. Analytical queries · Date and time analysis - Answer business questions with cohorts, funnels and trends over time using date functions, period grouping and month-over-month change.
  • Level 6. Building a reporting query · Preparing data for BI - Combine joins and windows into one report-shaped query, mind performance, and export clean output ready for Power BI.
  • Level 7. Power BI tour · Power Query and ETL - Tour the Power BI interface, load data sources, and clean, shape, merge and append into a repeatable load with Power Query.
  • Level 8. The data model · Intro to DAX - Build a star schema of fact and dimension tables with relationships, and write your first DAX measures that respond to filters.
  • Level 9. Core visuals · Interactivity - Match visuals to the message with bar, line, card and table, then add slicers, filters and drill through so users can explore.
  • Level 10. DAX for real metrics · Dashboard design - Write time-intelligence and growth measures, then design a one-page dashboard with clear hierarchy, colour and focus.
  • Level 11. End to end build · Storytelling with data - Build a dashboard from raw data through model, measures and visuals, lead with the insight, and guide the reader with annotations and context.
  • Level 12. Publish and share · Stakeholder-ready report - Publish to the service with scheduled refresh, share safely, and frame the report for decision makers with summary and detail.

How you submit: Coding quests in the built-in compiler with an AI copilot beside the editor - exactly the Cursor/Copilot workflow the course teaches.

A Stakeholder-Ready Analytics Dashboard

Raw data to a published, interactive dashboard that answers a real business question.

Take a raw dataset all the way through SQL and Power BI into one published, interactive dashboard a stakeholder can use to make a decision. You query and shape the data, model it, build the measures, and design a dashboard that tells a clear story.

  • A defined business question the dashboard answers
  • SQL that queries and shapes the source, with at least one join and one window function
  • A clean Power BI data model with relationships
  • At least three DAX measures, one of them time intelligence
  • A one page dashboard with clear visuals, a slicer, and drill through
  • The key insight led up front, detail below
  • Published to the service with scheduled refresh
  • A two line stakeholder summary

Shipped when: The dashboard is published and refreshes on schedule, a stakeholder can filter and drill to answer their own follow ups, and the headline insight is clear within seconds.

Who it's for

Data Analytics with SQL & Power BI suits learners at a beginner to intermediate level who want a practical, project-based route into Data Analytics with SQL. You need only a browser and an internet connection - all coding runs inside the EchoLens compiler, so there is nothing to set up.

Certificate

Finish every stage and EchoLens issues a verified certificate carrying a QR code anyone can scan to confirm it on our site. You can add it to your CV or share it to LinkedIn in one click.
